ELOHIM ei ole Ilmarinen * ELOHIM is not Ilmarinen

Tutkiessamme elohistista luomiskertomusta  (1. Moos. 1: 1 - 2: 4a) Hepreapiirissämme, olemme hämmästyneet siinä esiintyvien verbien ristiriitaista viestiä.

When we have been studying the Elohistic creation story (Gen. 1: 1 - 2: 4a) in a small Hebrew group, we have get astonished with the ambivalent message of the verbs appearing in it.

Itse RUACH ELOHIM eli VALTAVA HENKI on tekijänä/luojana elohistisessa luomiskertomuksessa. VALTAVAN HENGEN tekemiset eivät ymmärtääksemme ole mitään nikkarointia eikä näpertelyä... senhän medän pitäisi nähdä jo omin silmin... katsommepa mihin suuntaan tahansa.

RUACH ELOHIM himself or THE ENORMOUS SPIRIT is the actor/creator in the Elohistic creation story. The doings of that ENORMOUS SPIRIT are not just making or tinkering... we should see it by own eyes... no matter what we are looking at around us.

Verbi ברא, joka esiintyy sekä elohistisen luomiskertomuksen alussa (1: 1) että sen lopussa (2: 4a) sopii loistavasti kuvaamaan tuon suuren ja väkevän HENKI-JUMALAN luomistyötä. Kyseinen verbi tarkoittaa nimittäin "TEHDÄ OLEMATTOMASTA OLEVA".

The verb ברא, which appears both in the beginning (Gen. 1: 1) and at the end (Gen. 2: 4a) of the Elohistic creation story, illustrates perfectly the creation of that great and mighty SPIRIT-GOD. The verb means " to CREATE EXISTING THINGS FROM NOTHING".

ELOHIM käytti maailmaa ja universumia luodessaan sanansa voimaa, sillä meille kerrotaan, että "Jumala sanoi" (1. Moos. 1: 3, 6, 9, 11, 14, 20, 24, 26). Tuota valtavaa työskentelytapaa kuvataan myös eräässä psalmissa: "Sillä hän sanoi, ja tapahtui niin, hän käski, ja se oli tehty" (Ps. 33: 9).

When creating the earth and the universe God used the power of his word, as we are told that "God said" (Gen. 1: 3, 6, 9, 11, 14, 20, 24, 26). Also a psalmist describes this immense mean of working: "For he spoke, and it was [done]; he commanded, and it stood fast" (Ps. 33: 9).

ELOHIM on YLIVERTAINEN LUOJA koko maailmankaikkeudessa.

ELOHIM is A SUPREME CREATOR in the whole universe. If somebody isn't he who earns the worship of the whole cosmos. I think that John who wrote the book of Revelation (the last book in the Bible) surely understood this when he spelled the message of the first angel: "Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters" (Rev. 14: 7).

Who ever did write Genesis, we have no sure word of him, but according to the text I think that he had difficulties to believe in "the creation from nothing" and "the creation by a word." We can find this kind of hint in the Hebrew verbs appearing both in the Elohistic and the Yahwistic creation story.

Hepreankielinen verbi עשה, joka esiintyy mm. 1. Moos. 1: 7:ssa ja 2: 4B:ssa merkitsee tekemistä/valmistamista jostakin materiaalista (EI tyhjästä). Verbin merkityksiä ovat mm:
1. tehdä, valmistaa 2. tehdä työtä, työskennellä 3. luoda 4. istuttaa 5. järjestää (pidot) 6. kiinnittää 7. suorittaa, panna täytäntöön. Mainittakoon myös, että samanalkuinen sana עשות merkitsee "työstetty", "taottu".

The Hebrew verb עשה, which appears in Gen. 1: 7 and 2: 4b
means to make/do something from some material (NOT from nothing). It's meanings are among other things:
1. make, produce 2. work, job 3. create 4. plant 5. arrange (party) 6. fix, fasten 7. perfome, execute. Even a word עשות (beginnig similarly) means "worked", "hammered", "forged".

Tästä ei sitten enää olekaan pitkä matka seppo/seppä Ilmariseen, joka on kalevalainen taivaankannen kalkuttaja! Lainaan tässä Kalevalan myyttistä runoa ja Väinämöisen kysymystä: "Oi on seppo veikkoseni. Mitä paukutat pajassa, ajan kaiken kalkuttelet?"

How near is an idea of "seppo Ilmarinen" or a smith forgering the sphere! The Finnish mythical epos Kalevala is telling about Väinämöinen and Ilmarinen. Väinämöinen asked ilmarinen: "O, my brother blacksmith what are you forging in a smith hammering all the time?"

The opinion of the people of the ancient world and their mental images based upon the limited knowledge about the universe are reflecting in the verbs of the creation stories. Obliously limited people (such as we are) have difficulties to understand and believe that something could be created at once and from nothing even when THE ENORMOUS SPIRIT is the creator. Such a verbal creation in a moment is also in an open contradiction with the elovutionary theory!

Kuva raamatusta Jumalan kirjoittamana tai sanelemana kirjana on kuitenkin se, mikä on eniten saanut kolhuja tutkiessamme raamatun tekstiä heprean kielellä. Raamatun teksti on osoittautunut hyvin "inhimilliseksi"... eli juuri siksi, mitä se onkin.

But in our Hebrew Bible group it is the picture of the Bible as a book written or dictated by God has been battered. The Bible has been proved very "human"... such as it really is.

Valo ja pimeys * Light and darkness

Jumalan ensimmäinen luomistyö oli valo. Valo ilmestyi pimeän maapallon ylle Jumalan sanojen voimasta (Ps. 33: 9). Sanotaan: "Ja Jumala näki, että valkeus oli hyvä..." (1. Moos. 1: 4), mutta Jumalan reaktio valoon oli paljon enemmän kuin pelkkä näkeminen.

God's first act of creation was light. Light appeared upon the dark globe by the power of God's words (Ps. 33: 9). It's said: "And God saw the light, that [it was] good..." (Gen. 1: 4), but God's reaction to the light was much more than mere seeing.

וירא אלהים את האור כי טוב ויבדל אלהים בין האור ובין החשך

Heprean kielessä kyseinen jae alkaa sanalla וירא
(konjunktio ו + verbi ירא). Tätä sanaa ei voida kääntää sanalla "nähdä/näki", sillä näkeminen kuulostaa aivan liian vähältä tässä yhteydessä.

The verse in question begins in Hebrew with a word וירא
(conjunction  ו + a verb ירא). This word doesn't mean only "see /saw", for seeing sounds just too little in this case.

* to be afraid,
* not to dare,
* to fear God/gods,
* to honour

Sanan (וירא) ensimmäinen konsonantti ו merkitsee "ja",  ja kyseisen verbin (ירא) eri merkitykset näkyvät ylläolevasta kuvasta.

The first consonant of the word (וירא) is ו meaning "and", and under the table above you can read the meanings of the verb (ירא).

The light of the first day was not from the sun, because the sun was made not until the fourth day. The light filling the empty globe was the light of the presence of the angels (Job 38: 4 - 7). The first angel was Lucifer or he who bore the light (Eze. 38: 12 - 16). But his light turned to darkness even in the same day, for his rebellion began at once when he realized that in spite of his perfect beauty he was lower than God (Eze. 38: 17). It must be so, because darkness is Satan's symbol as a contrast of the symbol of Jesus (John 1: 9), and because there was darkness even in the very first day.

Yksi ירא -verbin merkityksistä on "kunnioittaa".

One meaning of the verb ירא  is "to honour". God HONOURED light so much that he "divided the light from the darkness". Althought God intended the first angel to bear light, Lucifer turned to be light's contrast because of his own selfishness. Therefore God divided the 24 hours into dark and light parts as to remind us about Lucifer's rebellion and the consequences of to follow one's own will. God saw that the light was "good" and "useful" but the darkness "bad" and "useless". God honours light and obedience more than darkness and disobedience, because God himself is the light and his opponet, Satan, is the darkness.

Palautetta * Feedback

Tämänpäiväisessä radion aamuhartaudessa sivuttiin lempitekstiäni 2. Moos. 3: 14. Poimin nyt tuosta hartaudesta kaksi lausetta:
1. Jumalan nimi on verbi
2. Ihminen ei ole nimennyt Jumalaa

In this morning a priest quoted my favourite text (Ex. 3: 14) in a radio morning prayer. I'll pick up now two centenses from that prayer:
1. God's name is a verb
2. Man has not named God

1. Jumalan nimi on verbi.
Se on totta. Jumalan nimi EHJEE (אהיה) johdetaan hepreankielisestä hajah-verbistä (היה), joka on olla-verbi, ja Jumalan nimi EHJEE merkitsee siis "MINÄ OLEN" (yksikön ensimmäinen persoona!).

1. God's name is a verb.
That's true. God's name EHYEH (אהיה) is derived from a Hebrew verb hajah (היה) meaning "to be", and therefore God's name is "I AM" (the first person in singular!).

2. Man has not named God.
I think this is not true and I'll argue my opinion in this way: In spite of God's clear information he has been called YAHWEH (יהוה), which is derived from the Hebrew verb havah (הוה) meaning "to become to something". THE VERB HAS BEEN CHANGED, and moreover the PERSON, for Yahweh is in the form of masculine in the third person of singular. Because God never acts strangely with his name there is no other possibility than that man has named God according his own will. Some years ago a highly educated man confessed to me that "Yahweh is an academic agreement conserning God's name."

Pelastava nimi * The name that means salvation

Pietari julisti juutalaisten neuvostolle: "Eikä ole pelastusta yhdessäkään toisessa; sillä ei ole taivaan alla muuta nimeä ihmisille annettu, jossa meidän pitäisi pelastuman" (Ap.t. 4: 12). Mikä siis on tuo pelastava nimi?

Peter declared before the Jewish elders: "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is no other name under heaven given among men, by which we must be saved" (Acts 4: 12). So what is the name that means salvation?

Samasta luvusta voimme lukea, että Pietari puhui "Jeesuksesta Kristuksesta Nasaretilaisesta" (jae 10). Mutta mikä noista kolmesta nimestä merkitsee pelastusta?

We can read in the same chapter that Peter was speaking about "Jesus Christ of Nazareth" (verse 10). But which one of those three names means salvation?

"Nasaretilainen" on kaupungin nimestä (‏נָצְרַת) johdettu, ja se toimii ikäänkuin "sukunimen" vastineena, eikä se nimi merkitse pelastusta.

"Of Nazareth" (נָצְרַת) is derived from the name of the city where Jesus lived, and that word/name is used like a surname, and it has no meaning of salvation.

Nimi "Kristus" on puolestaan kreikankielinen vastine hepreankieliselle sanalle "Messias" (משיח), joka merkitsee "Voideltu".

The name "Christ" is a Greek counterword for the Hebrew "Messiah" (משיח) meaning "Anointed".

Enkeli kehoitti Joosefia antamaan Marian pojalle nimen "Jeesus" (ישוע), sillä hän on "pelastava"... "SÄÄSTÄVÄ" (יושיע) kansan synneistä. Kuka tahansa voi nähdä omin silmin, että Jeesus-nimi on johdettu hepreankielisestä sanasta "pelastaa"/"SÄÄSTÄÄ". Siis JEESUS = PELASTAJA!

An angel ordered Joseph to call Mary's son "Jesus" (ישוע), for he shall "save"... "CONSERVE" (יושיע) people from sins. Everyone can see that the name "Jesus" is derived from the Hebrew word "save"/"CONSERVE". Therefore JESUS = SAVIOR!

Luulin, että Uusi Testamentti vilisee tuota suurta ja ihmeellistä nimeä! Mutta hämmästyin suunnattomasti huomatessani, että nimi "Jeesus" esiintyy UT:ssa vain noin 30 kertaa, kun sen sijaan "Kristus" esiintyy noin 190 kertaa, "Messias" vain 2 kertaa, "Nasaretilainen" 7 kertaa ja "Herra" noin 160 kertaa.

I was thinking that the New Testament is full of that grand and amazing/miraculous name! But I was very amazed when I noticed that the name "Jesus" appears only about 30 times in the NT, and "Christ" about 190 times, "Messiah" only 2 times, "of Nazareth" 7 times and "the Lord" about 160 times.

I was more astonished when I remembered that Yahweh/Jehovah/יהוה (the Lord in English) appears 6828 times in the Old Testament! And further more I remembered that those who copied the scriptures had to take a bath (maybe even three times) before they were allowed to wrote the name יהוה. Moreover they should wear the total Jewish costume and they were not allowed to break writing the name יהוה not in the means to have more ink or not even because of a visit of a king.

Jahve-nimi on havah-verbin imperfektin kausaalimuoto ja merkitsee "hän saattaa tulemaan joksikin". Ei siis sanaakaan pelastuksesta! Sen sijaan tuo sana/nimi sopii mainiosti okkultismiin, missä päämääränä ja tavoitteena on aina "joksikin/jonkinlaiseksi tuleminen".

The name Yahweh is derived from the havah-verb and it is in Imperfect's Causal-form meaning "he makes to become to something". There is no word meaning salvation! But that word/name fits perfectly to Occultism with it's aim "to become to something/some kind".

Syntiinlankeemus saattoi ihmiskunnan kuolemantuomion alaiseksi, mutta juuri siitä "Jeesus" SÄÄSTÄÄ/PELASTAA omansa. Kuitenkin Käärmeen lupaus kaikuu yhä viettelevänä "Jahven" nimessä: "ette suinkaan kuole... vaan te TULETTE niin kuin Jumala TIETÄMÄÄN HYVÄN JA PAHAN.

The Fall made us mortal and drew the judgment of death upon us, but "Jesus" SAVES/CONSERVES his children from that. However the promise of the Serpent can still be heard tempiting in the name of "Yahweh": Ye shall not surely die... ye SHALL be as gods KNOWING GOOD AND EVIL.

On syytä pitää mielessä, että Jumala ilmoitti Moosekselle nimensä olevan אהיה  EHJEE (2. Moos. 3: 14) eli MINÄ OLEN!

We have a good reason to remenber that God informed his name to Moses, and it's אהיה EHYEH (Ex. 3: 14) or I AM!

UT:n Herra * Lord in the NT

Sateisena lomapäivänä ryhdyin selvittämään, mikä sana hepreankielisessä raamatussani vastaa Jeesuksesta Uudessa Testamentissa käytettyä sanaa "Herra". Koin melkoisen yllätyksen.

In one rainy day during my vacation I wanted to find out what is the name in my Hebrew Bible that corresponds to the word "Lord" used in the New Testament of Jesus. There was a surprise.

Kuten tiedämme, Vanhassa Testamentissa "Herra"-sanan vastine on lähes poikkeuksetta sana יהוה eli Jahve/Jehova/JHWH. Joissakin VT:n teksteissä saattaa esiintyä myös sana אדני eli Adonai, jota on käytetty korvaamaan Jahve/Jehova-nimeä.

As we know in the Old Testament the corresponding word to the word "Lord" is יהוה or Yahweh/Jehovah/JHWH. Also the word אדני or Adonai appears as a substitute to the word Yahweh/Jehovah.

Mutta Uuden Testamentin puolella esiintyykin pääasiassa muoto אדון eli Adon, joka merkitsee "isäntä", "aviomies", "herra" tai muoto אדני eli Adoni (HUOM! vaikka sanan konsonanttiasu näyttää samalta kuin sanassa Adonai, vokaaliasu on erilainen... jota en saa tosin kirjoitetuksi näppäimistölläni). Myös tämä sana esiintyy VT:ssa, mutta yleensä vain puhuttaessa inhimillisistä herroista. Siis Jeesuksesta puhuttaessa hepreankielisessä raamatussa käytetään huomattavasti useammin inhimilliseen herrauteen viittaavaa sanaa אדון Adon kuin Jumalan nimeksi väitettyä sanaa יהוה Jahve/Jehova/JHWH.

But in the New Testament there is a form אדון or Adon meaning "master", "householder", "host", "husband", "boss" or a form אדני or Adoni (the spelling differs from Adonai in vowels). Even this word appears in the Old Testament but usually only in question about human lords. In my Hebrew Bible there are mach more mentions of Jesus with the word אדון Adon than the word יהוה Yahweh/jehovah/JHWH.

Asian tutkimisen helpottamiseksi jaoin UT:n tekstit kahteen ryhmään (Käytin apuna Vilho Vuorelan Raamatun Hakusanakirjaa II Uusi Testamentti):

To make easier to study this issue I made two lists:

Vertailun vuoksi laitan tähän vielä listan niistä UT:n kohdista, joissa Vapahtajasta käytetään nimeä "Jeesus". Minua suorastaan hämmästyttää, kuinka lyhyt lista on huolimatta siitä, että tämä on ainoa nimi, jossa ihmiskunta voi pelastua (Ap.t. 4: 12).

For a shake of a comparison I listed also the verses with the name "Jesus". I was really ashamed when I saw how short the list is, although this is the only name, whereby we must be saved (Acts 4: 12).

3. JEESUS

Uudessa Testamentissa Jeesuksesta käytettyjen hepreankielisten sanojen yleisyydestä voimme vetää sen johtopäätöksen, että hänen inhimillisyyttään ja palvelijan tehtävää korostetaan enemmän kuin hänen jumaluuttaan. Herramme Jeesus Nasarealainen on palvelija (Matt. 20: 25 - 28)! Alentuminen on ominaista Ehjeelle!

As a conclusion from the Hebrew names of Jesus in the New Testament we can find that his humanity and the task as a servant has been emphasized more than his divinity. Our Lord Jesus from Nazareth is a servant (Matthew 20: 25 - 28)! To descend himself is typical for Ehyeh!

Monikollinen yksikkö * Plural in singular

Jokin aika sitten ryhdyimme pienessä raamattupiirissämme kääntämään raamatun ensimmäistä lukua hepreasta suomeksi. Heprean kääntäminen on yleensäkin hidasta, mutta ryhmässä se kestää vielä pidempään. Mutta tähän mennessä olemme sentään ehtineet kääntää kaksi ensimmäistä jaetta, vaikka olemme joutuneet pitämään taukojakin muiden menemistemme vuoksi.

Some weeks ago we started in a small group to translate the first chapter of the Bible from Hebrew into Finnish. Usually it's very slow to translate Hebrew but in a team it takes much more time. But however we have managed by now to translate two verses from the beginning, although we have had some breaks.

We have had a great discussion about those two verses especially when we have noticed how the translators have tried to give us a certain picture of God. In this blog text I want to present three words (from these two verses), which are in plural in Hebrew but (usually) translated in singular.

Sanat ovat seuraavat:
Those words are:

 1.

Sana "Jumala/jumala" on hepreassa monikossa (monta tekijää), mutta käännetään yksikössä (yksi tekijä).

The word "God/god" is in plural (many authors) in Hebrew but translated in singular (one author).

2.

Sana "taivas" on duaalissa (kaksi tekijää), mutta käännetään yksikössä (yksi tekijä).

The word "heaven" is in dual (two authors) in Hebrew but translated in singular (one author).

3.

Sana "vesi" on duaalissa (kaksi tekijää), mutta käännetään yksikössä (yksi tekijä).

The word "water" is in dual (two authors) in Hebrew but translated in singular (one author).

Seuraavasta taulukosta nähdään heprean kielen duaalin (kaksi tekijää) ja monikon (kolme - ääretön määrä tekijöitä) tunnukset:

In the next table we can see the endings of the Hebrew dual (two authors) and plural (three - infinite number of authors):

Verratessamme heprean kieltä tehtyihin suomennoksiin, voimme huomata, että ensimmäisessä jakeessa käytetään muotoa "taivaan" (yksikössä) eikä "kaksi taivasta" tai "taivaat", vaikka השמים (ha shaamajim) on heprean kielessä duaalissa (kaksi taivasta).

When we compare the Hebrew text to the translations we may state that the singular form of "heaven" has been used in the first verse instead of dual or plural, although השמים (ha shaamajim) is in dual (two heavens) in Hebrew.

Toiseksi huomaamme, että toisessa jakeessa sanotaan "vetten (päällä)", vaikka duaalimuodossa oleva המים (ha maajim) olisi parempi kääntää yksikössä "veden (päällä)", sillä onhan kaikki vesi yhtä ja samaa vettä, olkoon se sitten missä hyvänsä, ja varsinkin kun vesi alussa peitti yhtenäisesti koko Telluksen!

Secondly we may state that in the second verse the plural form "(upon the face of the) waters" has been used, although המים (ha maajim) in dual in Hebrew could be better to translate in singular "(upon the face of) water", for it's always question of the same water, especially in the beginning when the water covered the globe all around!

Huomaamme myös, että monikollinen אלהים (elohim) on käännetty sanakirjan suosituksen mukaan yksikössä "Jumala" eikä "Jumalat", sillä tuota nimisanaa/subjektia edeltävä ברא (baaraa) -verbi/predikaatti on yksikössä ja ilmaisee, että tekijöitä on ainostaan YKSI.

We may state also that the plural form of אלהים (elohim) has been translated in singular ("God"... not "Gods") according to the wordbook, for the verb/predicate after the noun is ברא (baaraa) and informs that there is only ONE author.

MUTTA tästä tosiasiasta huolimatta jotkut yrittävät vääntää sanan אלהים (elohim) tarkoittamaan kolmea persoonaa kolminaisuusopin tarpeiden mukaan. Tämä väännös tapahtuu vastoin ברא (baaraa) -verbin antamaa informaatiota tekijöiden määrästä. Sen mukaan tekijöitä on siis vain yksi!

BUT in spite of this fact some people try to turn the word אלהים (elohim) to mean three persons pleasing the needs of the Trinity. This kind of contortion is against the information of the verb ברא (baaraa), for it shows that there is only one author!

Sitä paitsi, jos tuo nimisana אלהים (elohim) voitaisiin kääntää monikossa, se ei missään tapauksessa rajoittuisi vain kolmeen tekijään, sillä heprean kielen monikkoa käytetään aina silloin, kun tekijöitä on enempi kuin kaksi eli kolmesta äärettömään.

Besides if it would be possible to translate the word אלהים (elohim) in plural, there would not be only three authors, for the plural form is used in Hebrew when there are more than two authors or from three to infinite.

Elohim-sanan monikollisuus kuvaa Jumalan äärettömyyttä. Siksi sanat רוח אלהים (ruach elohim... suom. "Jumalan Henki") voidaan kääntää sanoilla VALTAVA HENKI.

Elohim in plural describes God's infinity. Therefore the words (ruach elohim... in English "the Spirit of God") can be translated AN ENORMOUS SPIRIT.

Kun tämän kaiken edellä sanotun lisäksi huomioimme, että toisessa jakeessa esiintyvä sana רוח (ruach... suomennettu "henki") merkitsee "hengitys", "henkäys", "puhallus", "tuulenhenki", "tuulahdus", "tuuli", "henki", "elämä", ja että tuon ruach-henkiolennon tekemistä kuvaava verbi מרחפת (perusmuodossaan רחף) merkitsee "vapista", "väristä", "tutista", "huojua", "lennellä", "liidellä", emme mitenkään voi saada kuvaa kahdella jalalla paikasta toiseen kiirehtivästä persoonasta... puhumattakaan kolmesta persoonasta, vaan eteemme nousee kuva HENGESTÄ, joka peittää olemuksellaan koko maapallon, eikä ainoastaan sitä, vaan myös koko universumin (Jes. 66: 1; Joh. 4: 24).

When we notice after all this information that the word רוח (ruach... translated "spirit") in the second verse means "breathing", "breath", "blowing", "breeze", "wind", "spirit", "life", and that the verb describing the ruach-spirit is מרחפת (the root form רחף) and means "to shiver", "to quaver", "to shake", "to sway", "to blow", "to float", we can't no way get an image of a person... not to mention three persons walking on two feet and rushing from a place to another, but before us there is a picture of a SPIRIT, which fills the whole globe and even the whole universe by his essence (Isa. 66: 1; Joh. 4: 24).

Johannes kirjasi Jeesuksen oman todistuksen suhteestaan Isään näin: "Isä ja minä me (olemme) yksi" (Joh. 10: 30).

Therefore isn't it any wonder that nobody has ever seen God and that he needed an EMISSARY for himself (John 3: 34; 5: 30), an apparent counsel/ "a body" (Heprew 10: 5), which "declared" God to the mankind (John 1: 18)! Being God's ambassador/spokeman Jesus could not be separated from God, but he had to follow God's will in everything (John 5: 19). John has written for us Jesus' own testimony of his relationship to Father in these words: "Father and I we (are) one" (John. 10: 30).
